Hitachi Construction Machinery Revo KTM’s Shaun Simpson is ready to spearhead the team’s ambitions in international and national racing campaigns in 2015 and gets a busy season of competition underway this weekend with a ‘cobweb-blowing’ exercise at the Hawkstone Park International in the UK. The current British Champion is expecting to find a raft of Grand Prix rivals in the dark Shropshire sand including factory entrants by Suzuki and Kawasaki. It will be the opening 2015 fixture for the 26 year old as he aims once more to be Britain’s top racer in the premier class – MXGP – of the FIM Motocross World Championship and also defend his British crown in the domestic series.
“Hawkstone has come around again and it means the start of another season; I cannot wait to get going to be honest,” commented the Scot returning to his base in Belgium from the south of Spain where he spent over two weeks riding, training and testing with the ’15 KTM 450SX-F. “The winter has gone quite quickly and it was essential to get all those laps and motos done in Spain and avoid the worst of the conditions back home and in Belgium. We’ve been working hard on the bikes since we had our set-up test down near Murcia and now I’m looking forward to getting back in the paddock and that race environment. To see all the fans and generally get going again.”
The eighteen-round 2015 MXGP calendar begins in just over three weeks with the Grand Prix of Qatar at Losail and then travels to Thailand and Argentina in March before landing in Europe. The eight-race ACU Maxxis British Championship also begins in March at Hilton Park on the 15th.
