Pietramurata was a bumpy, slippery and torrid surface for the Grand Prix of Trentino and the first European round of the FIM Motocross World Championship this year and Shaun managed twelfth position overall in two motos watched by a bumper 32,000 attendance in northern Italy.
Saturday looked promising. Overcast skies and occasional showers had an effect on the track and Shaun found some excellent lines to close up to the leading group of the Qualification Heat and seal a confident seventh place. The course was a different prospect on a drier and sunnier Sunday and after a full programme of activity that included three European Championship support classes that roughened the compact and narrow layout even further.
“I just couldn’t find traction or my groove today,” SS24 said after running to 12th and 10th positions in the races. “My start was OK in the first one and I was boxed-in in the first lap of the second but I never felt like I could really push and find some grip. It was tough and I wasn’t happy with the preparation of the track. Anyway, got some points and we moved up a position in the championship and now we’ll see what we can find in the sand.”
The British Champion is now eleventh in the MXGP points table and headed back to his HQ in Belgium to prep for the Grand Prix of Europe in the Netherlands this weekend for round five of eighteen this term.
