A confidence-boosting 1-1 at Hawkstone Park sees Shaun eager to be back in MXGP action for the Grand Prix of Czech Republic

After the disappointment of a double DNF due to technical problems at Desertmartin in Northern Ireland – round 5 of 8 in the 2019 ACU British Championship – Shaun was back on typical form with a dominant double win through the sand of Hawkstone Park last weekend.

Although now playing catch-up in the national series (he trails Tommy Searle by 49 points) the victory was just the second outing since #24 recovered from a broken right hand and allowed the Scot to gain some momentum for his return to MXGP duty this Saturday/Sunday at Loket for the Grand Prix of Czech Republic. The KTM rider won by almost a minute in both motos combined.

“The weekend was an absolute success,” he said. “It was no real surprise that I was fastest in qualifying and I was waiting for the track to rough-up a bit. The only thing I was disappointed about was that I didn’t get the holeshots and we’d been practicing those but I was second both times and in the lead by the end of the first lap.”

Simpson has missed the last five fixtures of MXGP due to the hand fracture but is now 100%, and raring to gather more points to contest the final six dates as strong as possible and enter the three-man Team GBR for the 72nd Motocross of Nations at Assen at the end of September. “I put a good word in for myself for the Nations and I’m feeling good,” he added concerning his form in the Hawkstone terrain and vaguely similar sand type to Assen. “I’m looking to getting to Loket this weekend.”
