Strong day for Shaun at a (surprisingly) dry Maggiora, north of Milan, for the Grand Prix of Italy and round nine of eighteen in MXGP 2015. The Scot glided to a comfortable third position in Qualification at the hilly circuit on his KTM 450SX-F and will roll into the gate for the motos tomorrow – with rainfall predicted – with the same slot.

“It was good, maybe a bit unexpected,” Shaun said, referring to his frustration in trying to find a fast lap in Timed Practice. “I didn’t really gel with the track this morning and it was all going to be down to the start in the Heat race. I had a good jump and managed to go around the outside of the crash on the first turn and came out in a good spot.”

“Cairoli had his misfortune, Frossard was on the deck and I overtook Butron to get into third,” he continued. “I just paced myself and I knew I didn’t need to do anything stupid. Bobryshev was charging at the end but I knew I had enough in the tank to do my fastest lap on the last one. Overall I’m happy with a really good gate position for tomorrow and it was nice to be in the Winner’s Circle on a Saturday.”

“I hope the track will be a bit more technical. It seemed like everyone had the same comments about it today,” he added. “It’s only Saturday, so room for improvement on my set-up and myself but I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
